The one with champagne, podcasts & Michael Jordan
Hi everyone,
I hope, wherever you are in the world, life is being kind to you. I’m revisiting an old format with this today where I give you a whistle-stop tour of the different things I’ve been up to. I’d love some feedback about what direction you’d like these emails to go in and what you prefer - this style, the longer article / story-driven emails, or a mix of both.
So without further ado, here’s what I’ve been doing this week...
1. Enjoying…
Getting out on my new paddle board. After hiring one for the weekend from my buddy Dan who set up FalSUP during lockdown, I treated myself to a Nautical from iRocker. Early morning paddles on flat calm water have been perfect ways to start the day.
2. Listening to…
This is How You Smile - Helado Negro. One of my favourite albums from last year. It’s sublime, cathartic, and probably best enjoyed with the sun setting while gently sipping red wine.
3. Watching...
The Last Dance. What a series. Documenting the last season of Michael Jordan and his all-conquering Chicago Bulls. It made me realise how much I’m missing sport. Jordan is an absolute force of nature. It’s an exceptional piece of storytelling about one of sport’s greatest ever athletes. Jordan is a man with a singular, driven purpose: to win. And to win at all costs.
His is an unrelenting pursuit of greatness. He doesn’t always come across well or likeable in this but I’m not sure someone is obsessed with winning as he is ever would. Worth watching even if you aren’t a basketball fan.
4. Drinking...
Champagne. A bottle I’ve wanted to drink for a long time, in fact. Today is my 10th wedding anniversary. We were going to celebrate by going on the honeymoon we couldn’t afford when we got married. Covid put an end to that plan so, instead, we’ll be eating takeaway pizza and sipping on Perrier Jouet Belle Epoque - possibly the prettiest bottle I’ve ever seen.
5. Working on…
Surprise Package - a podcast I’m launching with the brilliant Thad Cox. Life brought Thad and I together through work but we soon found we had a shared love of sports documentaries, irreverent pop culture, cult movies, and a genuine desire to help other people (especially other freelancers) make their dreams a reality.
This podcast is an homage to that and to the love of surprise. After all, one of the best things in life is the ability we all have to keep surprising ourselves with what’s possible and with what we can achieve when we keep raising the bar.
We recorded the first episode today and it featured things like revisiting classic movies to watch with your kids, bathing in a bucket, falling through ceilings, the art of storytelling, why Frozen 2 is better than the Rise of Skywalker, and ostrich pillows. Hopefully we’ll have it ready for you to listen to next week.
Have a lovely weekend folks and please let me know what style of emails you prefer.
Big love,
TT x
