Telling Tales | #05

Hi folks,

I won’t be joining the #deletefacebook ranks anytime soon but it’s been fascinating to watch how the major news story of the week has unfolded. I’ve always felt fairly comfortable about being Facebook’s product rather than it’s customer, and I don’t mind being shown ads for things I might like, but it will be interesting to see how this one rumbles on and what implications it’s going to bring with it.

In other news, here’s what’s been going on in my world. I’ve been…

1. Impressed by…
Zennor Glass. What a cool company. They make beautiful necklaces out of sea glass. I interviewed Holly, Lennie and Ming (2nd year students at Falmouth University who set up and run the business) for a project I’m working on and was so impressed by them. Their website (which they built) is great and they have an amazing Instagram account that’s worth following too.

2. Struggling with…
Concussion. So it turns out I’ve taken one too many knocks to the head this season playing rugby. It means, on the advice of the experts, I’m going to have to sit out the last four games of the season right at the time we’re in a big fight for survival in the league. I know it’s only a game, and I know my health comes first, but I’m gutted. That being said, there’s a limit on how much the body can take. I’ve always been a fan of pushing those limits and I’ve recognised I’ve reached one here, held my hand up and said: “That’s me done.” It’s not easy but it is the right thing to do. I’m sure I’ll come to terms with that eventually!

3. Re-watching…
This video. March 21 was World Down Syndrome Day and I re-watched this talk from TEDxTruro by Hayley Goleniowska on overcoming the fear of Down’s syndrome. It’s moving, it’s brilliant and it’s 100% worth watching. Here’s what I wrote about it at the time.

4. Listening to…
Ants by Ham Sandwich. Rubbish name for a band but this live version is so much fun and sounds great.

5. Looking forward to…
A trip to the big city. They’ll be a break from these next week as I head to London for a toddler-free break with Mrs T. Super-excited to see Ready Player One in 3D at the IMAX!

Have a lovely weekend and see you in a few weeks,

TT
